What a pity this wonderful CD is no longer available! It's the best buy I've ever made. Every day I play this CD to my grandson, and have done so since he was 2 months old. (He's now 10 months.) The male and female voices are trained and extremely agreeable to listen to. The songs are charming and have a strong beat, which makes them very danceable. I've been dancing with Baby to this music since he was in a baby sling and even now, when I'm just hugging him to my chest, he enjoys the drumbeat and the rhythm. Even a non-Mandarin-speaker like me can discern that the songs are comic and that sometimes the spoken words are in rhyme. When I hear the female voice saying the names of apples, pears, and grapes, I know that our favorite song, "Pulling the Carrot," is about to come on. I played this same record to Baby's sister when she was born in 2009.Product details

Baby First Words in Chinese (Audible Audio Edition) Living Language Books Reviews
This is an excellent CD. It's easy to listen to. The kids love it and have learned from it. Two thumbs up!
This CD is peaceful and lovely to listen to. We do not speak Chinese but after reading that babies lose the ability to hear certain sounds in languages by 10 months, I decided to try playing this CD for my daughter. She is only 2.5 months old now, so no word on her ability to speak Chinese yet, but after playing this CD about 3 times a week since she's been born I noticed that I have picked out Chinese language when I've heard it in pubic and have really been able to focus deeply on the language. I think it's great!
This CD has great audio quality and great content. My girls like it just fine. I didn't give it 5 stars because I feel, as a native Chinese Madarin speaker, some of the musical arrangements are kind of weird. Also, some of the nursery rhymes that I grew up with are butchered (either incomplete or completely changed). But overall, it's a great first CD for the little ones to be exposed to the language.
This is a nice little CD to play while your child is in the room. My five-month old seems to enjoy listening to it, and my wife, who is from China, enjoys singing along with the CD to our child. I am looking forward to seeing how she responds as she gets older.
This is by far my favourite of the CD's I purchased to help my children get an ear for Mandarin. This CD has high quality production values and is pleasant to listen to, engaging enough to sing along. It is now 8 years since I purchased it, and we still occasionally listen to it.
My husband is Chinese and we want our daughter to learn so this is a great resource - especially for when he's not around - she can still hear it from the CD and from me speaking it (to the best of my abilities). We sing along with the CD and I'm learning to say sweet things to her in Mandarin in a effort to help her become bilingual.
GREAT resource. Highly recommend! But like anything, it's mostly about the effort you put in!
I bought this CD/Book looking for a way to introduce my 3 year old son to Chinese sounds. Both my husband and I are non-native Chinese speakers and hope our son has a better accent than we do. We love this book and CD. The songs and sayings are great and our son loves listening to the CD. And my husband and I enjoy the pamphlet that accompanies the CD that has each track in pinyin and with the English translation. This is perfect for parents who don't read Chinese, but still want to introduce their children to the language.
